Designer-Approved Trick to Decorate Your Rental on a Budget
I live in Dubai, an overwhelming city with a mixture of tradition and modernity. This is one reason for our plentiful expat population. With the increasing crowds, we are spoilt for choices when it comes to rental homes. A 10/10 is not guaranteed, but we do find what we need. If you are a space-crazy person like me then you are sure to zero down on old-built spaces than their contemporaries. These spacious dwellings accommodate everything, but they aren’t impressive looking. With the community guidelines, landlord rules etc.., there isn’t freedom to play around. This got me thinking- “What can be done to style up these controlled residences?” You know what the answer was: Let me hint “Shades, Hues, Chroma”. If you haven’t guessed it yet, it is “Colour”. Yes, the substance giving old rental homes the desired makeover.
Apart from the regulations, the fluctuating rents also keep us on the move. These shifts also stop us from renovating our rentals- because you never know when the next move will be! Hence, my phenomenal idea comes into play perfectly. Colours- the radiant liquids that strike a perfect balance to turn “that house” into “our home”?” And did I mention colours do not require any structural changes? Isn’t that fabulous?
Rental homes are usually neutral-colored- beige, whites, brown and at times grey. These paint colours go with just about anything. Without wasting time, let’s check out what colours can do.
- The colour of paint can make a small room appear big. Light or pastel colours are the preferred ones. Take a look at the transformation the pastel green adds to the space. Did you spot the same sofa and sideboard?
- My clients tell me “My house should hold a sense of calm and comfort”. This request leads me towards pale shades. Trust me, they have never let me down. Come on, let me show you a kid’s room in a pale colour. What if I told you this is a girl’s room, and it isn’t pink 😉 See it to believe it!
- If you hop over to my , you will see that it is pretty evident I gravitate towards matte and textured finishes. I love the freshness the extra layer of texture adds to the space. It is such a wonderful sight to see !
- As a general assumption, people think dark-colored rooms are gloomy and depressing. I say it is otherwise. When executed properly, deep palettes are beautifully dramatic and bloom with life. Check out a basement room I did with dark teal and our home office in black! Not too many elements to clutter, right contrast and perfect balance of colours does the job just right.
