Low Maintenance Houseplants for Your UAE Home
One question I get asked is, “What indoor plants do you recommend for UAE living?”. Well, the answer is simple. As a rule of thumb, we consider the light factor of the area, the condition and the temperature of the place, and the environment the plants will be in, etc.., However, for first-time gardeners, it is a bit overwhelming. So, today I will present to you 5 low-maintenance house plants for your UAE home. These plants adjust to most weather conditions. Let’s quickly look into it.
Plants play a pivotal role in pepping up any given space. Not only do they add color, but also give a dynamic feeling.
Well, as I always say your personal style could be anything- minimalist, modern, or farmhouse, but flora can fit into any theme. Psst, if you aren’t convinced yet to read further shall I give you my Ted Talk on cheap ways to improve air quality in your home? Now, you get it, right! So, let’s begin.
- Aloe Vera
Our number 1 has to be “Aloe Vera”. Found in almost every house, this plant is best known for its cosmetic properties. The plump leaves contain a soothing gel for cuts and burns. Depending on the humidity, you may water it as needed. My top tip would be to allow the soil to dry completely before your next watering cycle. Next time you see that pimple, you know who to say “Aloe” to!
2. ZZ plant
One of the toughest houseplants that can conveniently add green glitz to any space is the ZZ plant. ZZ or Zamioculcas Zamiifolia is a lovely-looking, rubbery-leaved plant. It loves to be left alone. Low-lit home, check! Less water, check! Months of neglect, check! This plant is easy as a breeze. Much easier to handle than my fully grown teen!*Phew!😅 Let’s save that discussion for another day*. The leaves will remain healthy, even after months of neglect and it needs very little water. The ZZ plant is a perfect choice for the home or the office because of its oval-shaped feather-like leaves. Again, a great air purifier that can fit in any part of your décor.
3. Snake plant
The snake plant also known as Sansevieria or Ribbon plant, is a succulent green plant. It has thick and waxy leaves. If you are a person who loves vacations, then this is the perfect choice of greenery to add to your home. The snake plant thrives on being ignored. You don’t need to water it for weeks and yet you’ll see the leaves fresh and green. These plants also help keep the air in your home clean. What better than a plant that allows you to holiday in peace? Go purchase one now!
Did you know the Snake Plant has a funny name called “mother-in-law’s tongue” although I wonder why? 😉 If you know, share it with me in the comments.
4. Money plant
A preferred creeper- The Money plant, sure does fall under the most common indoor plant category. This tropical beauty known for its shiny heart-shaped leaves is a brilliant choice in home décor. Besides providing numerous health benefits, the money plant is also known to attract positive energy and wealth. Hence the name. As per Feng shui, placing the money plant in the South-Eastern corner of the room helps to maintain a healthy environment, and peace at home. The same placement also enhances the flow of finances. Before I forget, let me remind you this plant can either be potted in a pot or placed in a vase filled with water. Just remember to prune them regularly because they can grow very long.
5. Peperomia
Lastly, Peperomia- the South American rainforest native is an incredibly versatile indoor house plant. The Peperomia plant is grown for its good-looking foliage. It is semi-succulent, pet-friendly, low-care -a few characteristics that make peperomia a smart choice for houseplants. For all the beginners out there, here is my hack, peperomia comes in a variety of colors and textures. All you need is to buy different styles of this species according to your space because the care guide for the plants is the same. Didn’t I save you from remembering countless plant maintenance procedures?
